Scott Taunton

Chief Executive, Wireless

Scott Taunton was appointed CEO of Wireless in November 2016, following its acquisition by News UK, one of the country’s leading media businesses and owner of The Times, The Sunday Times and The Sun.

As Wireless CEO Scott oversees three leading national radio brands – Virgin Radio UK, talkSPORT and talkRADIO. Wireless also owns a raft of market-leading Irish stations, alongside Wireless Studios – the rapidly expanding digital audio and podcasting arm of Wireless – and digital businesses Simply Zesty and Tibus.

Scott has led Wireless through a period of rapid growth characterised by innovation and investment in talent and sports rights. His signing of Chris Evans to host the Virgin Radio UK Breakfast Show is the radio industry story of 2019. The show – backed by an industry-first ad break-free partnership with Sky – reeled in one million listeners in its first ten weeks on air.

The latest round of audience listening figures for Wireless found Virgin Radio to be the fastest-growing station in the UK, while the talkSPORT network and talkRADIO both delivered record performances.

Born and raised in Australia, Scott has had a long career in the radio industry. He was general manager of DNA Internet until March 2000, when the company was acquired by Northern Ireland-based broadcaster UTV Media. He was later appointed chief executive officer of UTV Radio following its acquisition by UTV Media in June 2005. Scott was awarded a Radio Academy Fellowship in 2014.
